In the front row there is Grim, the starplayer slayer (I think), Zara, chainsawguy, a passed out fan (the leader reroll), Boomer the bomber and some special gun dwarf I don't know the rules for... In the back there is 4 more linemen, 2 slayers (redone with orange hair), 3 drunken fans - one of them is puking rivertroll vomit. And of course the deathroller and the stunned deathroller.

This is the end of the Chaotic dwarfteam... It has been great fun to paint all of them, and I'm quite happy with the way they turned out... hope the owner is too... And Tjub who did a really great job converting all of the miniatures.

All in all there's some 30 models in this team.

Now what?

I guess I'll paint some boardgame-miniatures... maybe some of the Zombicide heroes... or some of the miniatures for Blood Rage... or some miniature from another of the dozens of boardgames I have bought lately from Kickstarter...

I must admit I really can't help myself when it comes to kickstarter.... I'm backing way more than I'll ever need.... But if it comes with extra miniatures, I'm in.

Here's the first 15 members of the scratchbuilt dwarfteam! They are going to the world cup in Italy next week - I hope they do well!

There still remain some 13-14 models to the complete team... But I'm quite happy to have reached this point, even though I fear it will take a long time to complete the rest of the team. Still, there are some quite funny models left - the deathroller for example..and some drunken fans... and the hobgoblin starplayer of course.

If it was my team, I think I would have added more nondwarf miniatures.. but hey...some people just love dwarves! :)

...

Apart from bloodbowl miniatures I have had my hands on several new miniatures.

2 of the games I have supported on kickstarter has arrived!

'Blood Rage' - the McVey viking game and 'Dungeon Saga' from Mantic.

At first sight Blood Rage looks almost as good as I had hoped. The miniatures are way better than the sedition wars miniatures... And the game looks fun... though I have not played it yet...of course.

Dungeon Saga is harder to judge just by looking at it... I have no idea how the game play... but the miniatures are a little disappointing... though that was somehow expected... Mantic and their hard plastics... Still it might be good...I do love a good old dungeonraid! :)
And these pictures tell the story prety much like it was:

Different matches, same situation... My skaven was simply swarming the serious injured and KO boxes!

1-2 vs undead 2-3 in casualties (I don't know how to beat undead with skavens!)
0-2 vs dwarves 0-5 in casalties (don't know how to beat dwarves either)
2-3 against skavens 1-5 in casualties (failed to avoid a matchwinning 1-turn td in the last turn)
2-2 against woodelves 3-1 I believe in casualties (maybe should have won this)
0-2 against high elves ...can't recall the casualties (was supposed to meet another skaventeam, but the judge had to play this one as the skavenplayer didn't turn up... )
0-2 against dwarves 1-7 in casualties (still don't know how to beat dwarves with skavens)

I learned some valuable lesson:

first of all... maybe practice is actually needed to win games after all....

And maybe playing the skavens as a bashingteam is a vulnerable strategy...at least when you aren't extremely lucky with the dice...

I need more luck!!

In the end I won best painted... and 'wooden spoon' for being such a miserable looser...

Next year I might just play another team...

Mikkel Nyboehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09537622862946589728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887453574139788305.post-52047695260910355732015-09-19T04:56:00.000-07:002015-09-19T04:56:21.938-07:00And more dwarves..I'm on a roll with these dwarves... Can't remember the last time I last had 2 blog-updates within days :)

3 more dwarves:

And with 7 dwarves down and only 21 to go, I'm nearing me the first groupshot!...

I'm still not sure about where to put names, numbers and colourcode... but I have some ideas... The base is probably the best place to put it...but maybe numbers could be painted on the white part of the hats? Maybe vertical? hmmm.. I'll have to put some more thoughts into it...

...

During the last year, where I haven't been painting, it seems like others have dropped painting as well? The forums where I use to lurk are becoming more and more deserted... What is happening with Frothers?!? And Oldhammer Forum is also slowing down... where is everybody?? Is there a new forum somnewhere I haven't been told about? please tell me! :(

Mikkel Nyboehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09537622862946589728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887453574139788305.post-54739873923538083772015-09-17T08:27:00.000-07:002015-09-17T08:27:06.929-07:00More bb-chaos dwarves...Still painting from time to time...

I have these 28 scratchbuilt blood bowl dwarves to do... And here's 3 more... 2 runners and an apothecary:

They seem a little rough... but in person they look better. As you can see I have tried to make their hats white and silver instead of the golden/silver I did on the first one... I think it's a little better this way!?

I'm still quite confident that they will look good as a team... can't wait to have enough to make a decent goupshot...

There's more dwarves coming up... so I hope to see you again on these pages :)

(wip)

Ok then.. took me a long time to get here... 9 months or so since my last post. And I havent been painting at all :(

Things went wrong when Fantask closed down their gamestore. That used to be the place where I did all my painting... for some 14 years I have been painting there every friday more or less. But times are hard and they had to close last winter...Im not good at adjusting... I must admit that :(

I have done several things to kickstart my paintingcareer though... I have, of course, bought tons of miniatures... I have recently bought a whole new set of Windsor & Newton brushes and some weeks ago I accepted a commision job - 28 chaosdwarves for blood bowl. All of them scratchbuilt by a tallented guy at Chaos Dwarf Online called Tjub.

An absolutely great team, full of character and humour. Great ideas... I really hope I can do them justice...

And all of them are supposed to be done this year... That's the plan...

The one on the picture is the first completed dwarf... at the moment we're discussing whether the silver on the hat should be white instead... I think that might be a good idea?

Apart from not painting, life is ok... children are alive and growing..job's ok most of the time and so on... I only wish I had more time to do hobbyrelated stuff...

Mikkel Nyboehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09537622862946589728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887453574139788305.post-85423768787657595312014-10-24T01:31:00.001-07:002014-10-27T07:32:39.055-07:00What have I painted?!?I have no idea what this is!

I bought this one at ebay some time ago...don't know the race, don't know the company, don't know the sculptor...

I thought it looked quite cool nonetheless and painted it up... I have even put pictures of it on Oldhammerforum, and noone there knows what it is either!? So this is your chance to proove how much you know about minis! Do tell me, if you know anything! :)

It came on an integrate base and earlier on it might have had some kind of mark beneath the base... it had been removed with a knife before I got my hands on it.

So... what is this creature?!?!

Mikkel Nyboehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09537622862946589728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887453574139788305.post-58466014847430575612014-10-11T05:17:00.001-07:002014-10-11T05:17:44.735-07:00Dragonbait cleric and old leadI do still paint...

Recently I finished this one - a cleric sculpted by Kev Adams for the dragonbait indiegogo campaign. I quite like it. It has the classic old school feel to it, that Kev Adams do so well.

I tried to keep the colourscheme muted for this one. Think it came out ok. It could be a cool cleric character or npc in a roleplaying game...

I have painted some really oldschool miniatures as well... But haven't got any photos yet.

And I have been buying more old miniatures...

I have been looking for this miniature for a long time...unwilling to pay the buy-it-now prices at ebay... This one I got from Battlefield Berlin for 10 euro... fortunately the blister is broken, so I won't hesitate to unpack it :)

I have been to a real tournament, and I have actually played Blood Bowl!

Here's a snapshot from one of my six games during this weekends Blood Bowl tournament. Notice the cool field made by Sonny Bundgaard. In this match my tactics worked out perfectly: injure the oppponent and then go score a touchdown. I made 5 casulties against this proelf team... The match afterwards I managed 8 casulties and still lost 1-0... Had some real bad luck in between injuring slanns (.. ok I admit - I wasn't quite sure about how to play those slanns...and unfortunately they turned out to play quite good).

In the end I came up fourth with 3 wins, 1 tie and 2 defeats.. I did however make the most casulties (23) and won best painted team as well... (again, admitted - blood bowlers don't seem to spend as much time painting miniatures as they do drinking beer and talking footballtactics)

I played with this team - FC Tusindmus:

Saturday was fleamarket-day as well... and I ended up with this lot of miniatures:

Was it worth some 21£? I did try to haggle...

All in all it was great to see some action, some incredibly well painted armies at the warhammer-tournament, and I really want to paint some more miniatures soon :)

They are simply excellent. A job well done by Jes Goodwin...

I bought this one at ebay some time ago - great miniature. Painting it up went ok I think, though I'm not sure I understand the pants...I think I maybe have painted something like pants that weren't meant as pants... Jes Goodwin, could you please clarify to me, what the loinclothes between his legs are meant to be if not pants? :)

The horn emerging form his forehead is a great idea. Love this sculpt!

I would really like to have some more of those ogres... there are some great personalities among them :)

Of course I have bought lots of other stuff, which may turn up here on these pages... - I can mention an ambull, two fimirs, some sort of slann and a totally unknown (to me at least) miniature... and then I couldn't help myself and backed the Mantic dungeoncrawler kickstarter... eventhough I'm rather sceptic with the miniatures from Mantic...and kickstarters...

Still... Gotta update this blog. Someone has to keep this internet up and running!

I painted these miniatures from Statuesque some time ago:

I bought them because I felt that eventhough they were 3d rendered (is this the right technical term?), they had character. And the scuplts are super crisp and nicely detailed. Think they would make good roleplaying pieces, even if the paintjob isn't top.

While waiting for Otherworld miniatures, I also invested in the Kevin Adams kickstarter 'Dragon Bait miniatures'

Painted up this half-orc executioner. As much as I like Kevin Adams' goblins, I'm not sure about these miniatures. I'll have a go at some of the others though... might show up on the blog later this year.

Oh... and I have started painting on something really oldschool... The Dwarfkings court! Don't know if I ever finish the whole court...but I'm almost done with the queen. Stay tuned

And I have bought a ticket for Giant Fanatics Blood Bowl tounament in October... Maybe I'll paint something up for that as well... A turnmarker or something :)

Today is the day - I actually received my miniatures from Otherworld!! It has been a long journey... more than 1½ year since I paid some 170£ for these.
Apparently Richard has been running short of money, and haven't been able to send minaitures out before earning money through sale of other miniatures... I, for my part, would rather have borrowed money from Hells Angels than ruinning my companyname (if I were Richard that is) with a buisness strategy like that...

If I ever consider buying Otherworld miniatures again (and I'm afraid I will - they are looking so good and crisp), I really hope I'll do my buisness with some retailer rather than with Otherworld themselves.

...

I do have some painted miniatures to show, but that'll have to wait...

I know... Let's not talk more about it, ok?

I have been painting some very old orcs... Orc villagers to be more precise, sculpted by trish Morrison back in the days when anatomy and stuff wasn't that important. Fun was however... :)

I like them. They have something about them, don't you think?

Oh, and I have been awarded with the most prestigious of awards - The Liebster Award! Yes, it is true... Clam awarded me, and now I am to answer some 200 questions and pass the award on to another 2000 blogs. Or I'll get cursed...

The questions are like this:

Sci-fi or fantasy? Ancient or Modern warfare? And why? Definately fantasy and ancient warfare...but mostly fantasy. Nothing beats a dungeoncrawl with monsters...certainly not spacemarines.

How did you first get into the miniature/war-gaming hobby? Dungeon & Dragons back in the days some 30 years ago..had a extremely hard time reading and understaning the rules.

What's the latest hobby-related book you've read? I bought Jacob Nielsens booklet about postcentaur painting...always liked and envyed Jacob Nielsens way of painting

What's your latest game you've played (tabletop/boardgame)? These days I haven taken up Magic the Gathering again, but last week I played Hanabi...was good fun.

Would you say you are more a collector, painter or gamer and why? I would say I'm a painter first and foremost, and then a collector... Haven't been playing much with them miniatures lately

Who is your favourite miniature sculptor? I'll go with Jes Goodwin...but I'm also quite fond of Kevin Adams, and the faces of Phil Lewis from the Talisman range are also among my favourites

Who is your favourite rule-book/source-book - illustrator/artist and/or writer? I hate reading rules, but do like John Blache illustrations...

Who is your all time favourite miniatures producing company? As much as I dislike the way GW has evolved, I must say that Citadel are the alltime greatest miniature company.

What's you favourite miniatures game/rule producer? I like Blood Bowl, and I even plan to play it this year at Giant Fanatic.

What's your dearest item in you collection - and why? I would say the 5 Femme Militant miniatures John Blanche himself payed me for some painted miniatures he bought of me.

What recent hobby purchase do you most regret (if any)? All kickstarters... Reaper bones because the material just doesn't do it for me, the Mcvey Sedition wars game, because it was a sci/fi game... and The Otherworld kickstarter because it has been 1½ year since the miniatures should have been here :(

Hmm... as for passing on the throphy... I'll risk the curse - The Liebster award has been given to every single miniature blog by now... I really think I was the last to complete the picture. I simply haven't got the time to find anyone who hasn't got it yet. If you would like to be awarded, feel free to write it in the comments :)

Mikkel Nyboehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09537622862946589728noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887453574139788305.post-69280037790693930502014-03-28T12:39:00.002-07:002014-03-28T12:39:41.378-07:00Kagunk!

There you are. Kagunk, ogre chiftain by Tre Manor... the Bones version.

I really enjoyed painting this one... As I said in the last post, Tre Manors sculpts are almost as cool as Kevin Adams sculpts... And when the Bones minis becomes this large, the material isn't that annoying to work with.

I hope to see some cool Bones miniatures next month, when I'm judging a local painting contest at Fantask in Copenhagen. All entries must be Bones mini - and you can hand them in all april... Maybe some of you bloggers can come by and participate?

What to paint next? I'm considering the purple worm from Bones... But having really decided anything yet... Stay tuned :)

Time flies and I must admit I haven't been productive. I haven't even been following blogs and stuff... Am I growing up, or what is happening??
But lately I have had fun painting some Kev Adams goblins - They have something special yet extremly simple to them. Maybe there is still hope for me.

But as much as I enjoyed painting them, I must say that I had a hard time taking photos of them.

I think I need to paint more Kevin Adams goblins... Some tome ago I saw an indiegogo campaign with rather nice Kevin Adams gobo warmachines and stuff... Looking forward to see those for sale irl :)
Until then I might just dig for gold in the mountain of lead... Lots of cool stuff there..probably some Kev Adams as well.

Next miniature on my to do list is a Tre Manor ogre from Reaper Bones...gotta paint at least some of them Bones... And Tre Manors sculpts are almost as cool as Kev Adams :)

The otherworld campaign has disappeared from Indiegogo...
And I still haven't received a single miniature nor replies to any of my
mails. I must say I'm quite disapointed with Richard from Otherworld :(

Hopefully the next update will be sooner than later.

Mikkel Nyboehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09537622862946589728noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887453574139788305.post-30345666389666261682014-01-16T11:26:00.002-08:002014-01-16T11:26:56.792-08:00AmbullSo, in the end it didn't take that much effort. As strange as it is, it really wasn't that big a deal to paint this iconic old school sculpt.

Of course I could have spent more time on it... and will probably add some static grass and fix some minor details.... but for now it does look quite ambull'ish to me :)

I have to ask though... How about those eyes?! I can't recall ever having seen it with eyes painted before... Is this because they aren't supposed to have eyes or what? And would it be better off with green eyes or red, instead of those almost human eyes I have given it?

I experimented a little with varnish... It looked a little dull after being dullcoted...(!) So I gave it some gloss coate on the scales, claws, teeth and head... It adds something right, I think.

The red on the back of the ambull is supposed to be blood coming from some wounds this particular casting had... In the end it came out ok.

I have always been very intriqued by these strange creatures... and after finaly having painted one, I must admit, I would like to have some more! :)

...

And I still haven't heard a word from Otherworld Miniatures...
Mikkel Nyboehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09537622862946589728noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887453574139788305.post-88319172897132100412013-12-15T13:33:00.000-08:002013-12-15T13:34:51.393-08:00SpacewolfBack from outer space!

I have been... away... I haven't been painting very much... Been busy at job and that kind of stuff... but most of all I have been a parent.. It really takes a lot of time and energy... the little one wakes up at 4 in the morning these months... I have been quite tired.

And I have been painting some Bones models that really wasn't very good models...

Then I got this commsionjob :) An old spacewolf-model... I had to admit, I have only ever painted like 7 marines/terminators... So I could not promise a result similiar to the ones you usualy see.

I must say that I really enjoyed painting this model... I know nothing of 40k rules or fluff... But modelwise this model is so much more cleancut and sharp in the details than those Bones models I have been splashing paint on lately. And even though sc/fi isn't my thing, this almost felt like coming home :)

The picture isn't good... way to dark - but still.. I went as always for a muted colourscheme... gray, brown and silver. I think the idea of making a wooden bolter was quite original... even though I didn't have the time to make it look totally convincing.

I won't be rushing out buying more of those 40k models... But I do think it was fun painting this one.

And even though I have been waiting a looong time, I still haven't received a single miniature from Otherworld. No phase 1, 2, 3 or 4 models for me...Nothing... That Richard from Otherworld...

I hope my next update will be sooner than later :) And perhaps with pictures of Otherworld models... One can always dream, right?!Mikkel Nyboehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09537622862946589728noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887453574139788305.post-48462498583977977732013-09-25T02:32:00.001-07:002013-09-25T02:32:28.103-07:00EttinThere you are:

One Bloody big Ettin Bones miniature for you. It could, and probably should, be highlighted and detailed more... maybe I will do some of that later on. Let's call him wip... I'll return with new and better looking photos one day...

I must say - I'm pretty annoyed with the stickyness it gets when varnished?! I use Modelmaster dull cote, and have never had any problems with that...

As for the bendiness, I'm also a little worried about a miniature like this one - his clubs tend to bend. i know it can be fixed with warm and cold water...but it keeps bending back if put into a box for transport... So i will have to keep him where I have unbended him... oh well.

Apart from all that, I must say I really like those Tre Manor sculpts! And at 5$ this one is a bargain. Go buy one and see if you disagree!

Now, what to paint next? Another sticky bone or something completely different? It will be something from the mountain though (so no wk dwarves, though they look mighty fine)

Mikkel Nyboehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09537622862946589728noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887453574139788305.post-5139088206418950622013-09-10T12:50:00.003-07:002013-09-10T12:50:50.884-07:00Goblinaid gobboA goblin from goblinaid:

A goblin wizard (here without his scroll pet) sculpted by George Fairlamb... can't remember having seen his name before?
While not the best sculpted among the goblinaid-gobbos I bought some weeks ago (his nose was quite a challenge), it has something to it.

He is a little fellow, and I thought the lipped 30 mm base would be to big for him, hence the traditional gw round base... maybe I should paint up his scroll pet and give them a lipped base...

Have you painted any goblinaid gobbos to be seen anywhere??

Mikkel Nyboehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09537622862946589728noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887453574139788305.post-58707332520066350452013-09-09T05:42:00.000-07:002013-09-09T05:42:28.702-07:00BonesAt last the Bones from Reaper arrived.

I had to pay 75$ in taxes to get it... and even though I'm not that much into Reapers stuff, it is overwhelming to open the box with some 200-250 figures in :)

I have even tried to paint one. This is my first experiment with painting Bones:

A Bones orc, sculpted by Tre Manor by the looks of it.
It was an ok experience. It was a little hard to prime it, but from there it painted up nicely I think. Some of the details are a little rough... But what's to expect at that price...

The integral base is annoying though - hard to get a hold on while painting and the finished mini doesn't match my other miniatures... I have considered removing it and putting the mini on a slotta base... Another solution is letting it be - these minis are for roleplaying mostly anyway... I dunno... What do you do with your bones??

I'm pretty sure I won't paint all of the bones miniatures...not even 10%... but still it is fun having all those miniatures that doesn't have to get a topnutch paintjob because, hey, they didn't cost me much (at least pr miniature).

What Bones miniature should be the next? Hmm... I'm considerering another Orc, some giant rats or something else I could use in lowlevel roleplaying... or maybe I should just grab a random?

Mikkel Nyboehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09537622862946589728noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887453574139788305.post-39457368111476332662013-08-28T12:19:00.000-07:002013-08-28T12:19:10.694-07:00An Alien Life Form - for Space Hulk

A quick 1 hour paintjob from Four A Miniatures. I must admit, I think it would be funny to field Alf in a game of spacehulk with some customized houserules (just as an obnoxious obstacle). He is supposed to fit into this bunch:

You might say this would only be fun in theory - but that is no problem... My Space Hulk comrade moved overseas last year, so it is not likely Alf and the others will ever see action... But in theory it could be fun...

An ewal dwergar from Clams range of multipart chaosdwarves.
I feel this one is so much more me than the chaos dwarf Sweyn some posts ago. But enough of that.

As I'm home taking care of my 1-year old untill he can start in daycare, I do have the time to trawl the internet for miniatures to buy, though I do not have the time to actually paint them. So he and me has been to the postoffice several times to pick up daddys packages lately... and will continue to do that in the time to come - a real daddy and son thing :)

I couldn't wait any longer for the goblinaid miniatures - and even though the complete range wasn't out at the time, I placed an order for some goblin goodies. We picked them up this morning, and they are really nice models. I bought the 10 I liked the most, and they are surpringsingly nice sculpts.

I also found some real Kevin Adams blood bowl goblins that looked quite cool. I hope we can pick them up at the postoffice next week or so.

And I have an additon to my spacehulk collection of odd sci/fi miniatures... more of that soon.

And theres the ebay miniatures... :)

And Reaper bones... has not arrived yet...

Nor has the Otherworld adventureres...

I like it much more now :)

It seems to me, that the sculpts of Jes Goodwin survives the test of time better than most.

I have bought several new miniatures for the lead mountain - Some very old minis (sorry Squeaks) at ebay and some very new from the Goblinaid campaign. Some of them might come up here one day...

I'm still looking for that limited edition fimir - if you have a spare one, I'll take it off your hands for 20£ including postage, thank you very much.
I still haven't decided which project to focus on...

The ambull has long been on my to do list... But especially one thing has been troubling me: Was I to put it on fantasybase or a sci/fi base for use in Space Hulk? Being a fantasy guy, I ended up following my heart. Fantasy basing it is.

The ratogre is one the miniatures from back in the days that I have stripped to repaint. It's a Goodwin sculpt, if I remember correct, and not at all as bad as it looked before getting stripped :)

The Frodo on foot was just an in between paintjob, I did because I missed doing someting with that kind of face... Nothing fancy, but I enjoyed painting it... It's nearly finished, as you can see.

Another Kev Adams goblin - I'm growing quite fond of them! :) And speaking of the Goblinmaster, I'm really looking forward to buy a good deal of those goblinaid sculpts once the whole bunch is up for sale. Gotta support the goblinmaster!

The little one in the back could be part of a new nostalgia project... I'm not sure yet...

Looks more mad irl :)

While I try to focus and paint something, I often find myself trawling ebay and other sites for interesting miniatures... I have done that for years... And even though the mountain of lead keeps growing, there is always a miniature I really can't carry on without. I know many fellow leadheads feel the same way, and I have always enjoyed reading wishlists on blogs - Hoping to find something I already had on other peoples lists, but more often finding new minis i ought to have.

It seems to change over time which models I have a craving for... But some models keep nagging me.

One model I really would like is the limited edition Fimir... I placed a bid on one some weeks ago, but it annoys me to pay overprice for miniatures, so I didn't get it - part of the sport is getting them at a good price.

Another model I have been looking for is the little gw Jabbervocky - But again, I hesitate to pay the price ebay demand... not sure the model is actually that good :(

I have also dreamt about the zoat with the staff for many years - but isn't it really small? It seems odd and tiny next to the normal zoats... Or is it just me?

Speaking of zoats... more fantasy zoats would be nice... and ambulls.

And the mutated ogre would also be nice to have... as well as the other Goodwin ogres...

There are so many more miniatures I would love to have. Can't name them all - I often find myself falling in love with a miniature the second I see it well painted :)

Off to ebay...
